* According to a special story in the Topeka Daily Capital-Journal, Carl Brown, who had given 80 acres of land to Other American, Inc., filed a suit in Rooks County to stop churches from being tax exempt.

* Several Boy Scouts and leaders had taken part in the Winter Scout Camporee on the Saline River. Attending were Tommy Carmichael, Nick Lowe, Mike Saunders, Frankie Slansky, Butch Look, Eddie Chuck Hageman, Mike Morrissey, Johnny Eades, Carl Findeiss and Dennis Boyd. The leaders were Richard Carmichael, Jack Bennett, Lawrence Look and John Carmichael.

* Mr. and Mrs. William Hart of Tampa, Florida were the parents of a son, Bruce Wesley, born on February 21st.

* Twenty-four girls had organized a Rifle Club under the supervision of the VFW. Those who had signed up were Terri Goddard, Eva Maddy, Kathy Look, Gloria Goddard, Nancy Carter, Karla Sheffer, Marva Desaire, Linda McCaslin, Gloria Maddy, Barbara Probasco. Beverly Gouldman, Joelle McCall, Ann Dillingham, Arlinda Desaire, Barbara Brown, Kathy Kincaid, Martha Conn, Bonnie Yoxall, Vickie Olson, Dianna Yoxall, Judy Bartlett, Connie Spencer, Paula Hance and Marilyn Springer.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The last remaining lots in the east block of Main Street had been purchased, located between the Record Office and the Ray T. Jones Store with the Stockton Florists to build there. Merlin Munn had closed his radio shop and was going to television school in Wichita.

* Mr. and Mrs. Earl Post of Logan had announced the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn, to Eugene Ross of Stockton.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were twenty grapefruit or oranges for $1.00, chopped ham for 69¢ a pound, a twelve-ounce package of elbow macaroni for 15¢ and three cans of oysters for $1.00.

* Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Northup had announced the engagement of their daughter, Patty, to Donnie Johnston. An April wedding was being planned.

* Nellie Bastien Purdy, John and Mamie Drotts, Lloyd Thompson Cordill, and Henry A. Fischer had passed away.

* Mr. and Mrs. John Hrabe had announced the engagement of their daughter, Connie, to Dick Cramer of Stockton.

* Mrs. Wilbur Robinson had entertained with a birthday party for her daughter, Patricia, to honor her sixth birthday. Patricia’s guests were Cindy Muir, Sheila Freemyer and Cheryle Thornburg.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies, “Rampage” starring Robert Mitchum, and “Strait Jacket,” starring Joan Crawford and Diane Baker.
