Thomas and Ruth Ann Bigge were named as the 2009 Kansas Master Farmer/Master Farm Homemaker at a banquet held at the Courtyard By Marriott Hotel in Junction City. They were also to be honored at the Kansas State Fair in September.

Leaders of the National High School Rodeo Association Wrangler Division (NHSRA WD), America’s newest junior high rodeo program, had appointed R. J. Schleicher of Stockton to the NHSRA Wrangler Division All-Star Rodeo Team.

Fusion Christian Youth Center officially opened its doors to the junior and senior high school youth. The building was the Former Tier One Bank.

The official publication of the COWBOY Society was in its 14th year of publication, and during that time, Stockton’s Gail McComb had 35 articles published.

Stockton Wrestling Club wrestlers Aaron Hahn, Joel Green, and Taten Pulec were headed to the two-day Kansas State Wrestling Folkstyle Championship Tournament.

Cheering on the Stockton Junior High sports teams were Anna Hahn, Carlie Spires, Paige Pedigo, Miranda Wildeman, Ali Miller, Natalie Johnston, Catlin Lingg, Sidnee Brown, and Morgan Beougher.

Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1996)—Ken and Ann Currie returned from a ten-day tour of Big Bend National Park in west Texas and the rugged Cooper Canyon in Old Mexico. Eight of the fourteen Stockton Kids Wrestlers who competed in the District Wrestling Tournament at Hays qualified for the State Tournament in Topeka. Those from Stockton were Chase Look, Jordan Perez, Jesse Stithem, Zane Meehan, Uriah Price, Chris Look, Travis Hahn, and Chris Walker.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting The Year 1954—A credit bureau, known as the Rooks County Credit Bureau, was being organized in the area. Mrs. Eva Jo Carmichael was to act as manager. Bob Hamilton signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers Farm System. He was assigned to pitch for Shawnee, Oklahoma, a town of 25,000 for the coming year.

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago In 1912—Elam Bartholomew, his son Lee, and Jim Hebrew got in Monday from the Bow Creek country. Elam spent the day in the Record office finishing the proofreading on “Century XXXVII of Fungi Columbiam,” a scientific publication he has published for a number of years. Walter Layton of Topeka has sold the Dale property and fourteen lots near the high school to R. H. Robinson of Shawnee County.

Verlyn C. Maddy (1944), Mary E. Carmichael (1919), Lee Phelps (1923), Patty L. Kramer (1939), and E. Arlene Shields (1939) passed away.

Kayla Arbogast of Russell and Jason Richmond of Plainville announced the birth of their son, Bentley Allen, born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.
