* And So They Say: Efford Lowe (Wednesday last week): “I thought maybe the Record would get out early today as it’s my birthday.” Dr. Harold Mauck: “If a person has to be sick, they are lucky to be in Stockton where people are so considerate and helpful.” June Arnold: “It doesn’t do much good to explain anything to me— you have to paint me a picture.”

* Harold R. Miller, principal of Oakley High School, signed a contract to become principal at Stockton High School for the next term. Miller graduated from Fort Hays State College with a master’s degree.

* A large crowd was present at the VFW Hall for the ceremonies conducted by the Auxiliary to honor Mrs. Ella Hock for her many years of work with the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Church World Service, veterans hospitals, and other such organizations.

* Outstanding academic records during the fall semester earned honors for five Stockton students at Kansas State University. They were Marsha Bouchey, Ann Dillingham, Wilma Hazen, Myron Knight, and Linda McCaslin.

*DuetoElwynLambert’s ill health, he was forced to give up his duties as Stockton Municipal Light and Power Plant Superintendent. Paul Green, who had been taking care of the duties since Elwyn became ill, succeeded him.

* Those who took the Nurses Aide Course from instructor Candace Dryden, R. N. were Marian Schrock, Viola Paulson, Joe Dodrill, Clara Barbara Miller, Leona Newell, Jerol Kern, Emma Kunish, Edna Mae Bretton, Beulah Cooper, Leona Livingston, Marthine Considine, Lucy Kennedy, Shirley Iman, Wanda Maddy, Gertrude Bemis, Norman Hummel, Dena Beck, Lyndal Gray, Connie Boethin, and Opal Mason.

* Receiving high marks at the Hill City Music Festival were Cindy Turnbull with an Advanced Performer for piano, and Steven Eckart (trumpet), Nancy Votapka (tenor solo), Jeannie Stewart (snare drum), Becky Korb and Nina Ballinger (flute duet), Lynn Carpenter and Nancy Votapka (tenor sax duet) for Highly Superior.

* Miss Ruth Ann Wilhite and Thomas E. Bigge pledged their nuptial vows on February 18th at the Basehor Baptist Church of Basehor. The bride wore a floor length empire style gown of peau de soie that featured long sleeves and a chapel length train caught to the shoulders.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: The only possible way to save money is to make more than you spend.

* Looking Back Fourteen Years Ago: The Kansas- Nebraska Natural Gas Company was asking for an increase in rates— about 8.27 percent. Karl Rayburn was planning to open a photographic studio in Stockton. Ilene Davey was elected State Future Homemakers President. The interior of the Oyer Food Market had been remodeled. Miss Louise Thomas and Lloyd Baughman, Jr.’s marriage occurred at Gaylord on December 27th.

* About 80 fathers, sons, and guests of the St. Thomas Holy Name Society had participated in the ten o’clock Mass. Then they attended breakfast after Mass. A. J. Kreller introduced the Rev. Finian Meis, OFM Cap, vocation director of St. Francis Seminary in Victoria, who spoke about Interest and Law in the Home Foster Vocations and the Youth of Today. The youngest sons present were Dennis Kreller, Patrick Poore, David Reed, and Alec Hrabe.

* On sale at Webster’s Supermarket were three Pillsbury cake mixes for 92¢, a pound of Washington extra fancy apples for 19¢, High Life Salad Dressing for 29¢ a quart jar, and a mystery special for 19¢ a package.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre was the movie “High, Wild and Free,” a Safari into Canada.
