Deer accidents dominate this week’s sheriff’s report

On Saturday, April 4, at 1:53 a.m., Trevor Vandegrift, 20, of Ness City, was heading east on X Rd. between 2 Rd. and 3 Rd. when he swerved to miss a cow or deer and lost control of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero he was driv ing, causing the vehicle to roll. A passenger, 39-yearold Jarod Easterberg, of Plainville, was transported by ambulance to Rooks County Health Center. The vehicle was totaled. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.

On Saturday, April 4, at 11:40 p.m., Nathan Weaver, 35, of Holdredge, Neb., driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling north on Hwy. 183 when he struck a deer near K Terrace. Weaver was wearing a seatbelt.

On Tuesday, April 7, at 8:30 p.m., Denae Denio-Odle, 42, of Stockton, driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan, was northbound on 9 Rd. when she struck a deer near H Rd. Neither she nor her passengers, 11-yearold Mia Odle, and Brody Odle, 8, were injured. All occupants were properly restrained.

On Saturday, April 18, at 3:20 p.m., Patricia A. Rudman, 66, of Levelland, Texas, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, was westbound on Hwy. 18 when she struck a deer near 16 Rd. Neither she nor her passengers, Mikeal Rudman, 73, and Elizabeth Coats, age 7, were injured in the accident. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.
