March 10th, 1921 - TO ASK FOR BIDS FOR NEW COURTHOUSE: At the meeting of the County Commissioners this week, it was voted to ask for bids again on the new courthouse. After very carefully going over the situation with Mr. Squires, the architect, and a number of contractors, the county commissioners have every reason to believe that building material is down to the low mark it will be for several years and that at this time is the most suitable time to let the contract if bids are submitted as low as they have every reason to think they will be. The date for letting the contract has been set for May 10th if everything is favorable and suitable bids are submitted. A few changes in the plans and specifications are being made by the architect, and within a short time, they will be ready for the contractors to figure on the building. The new building will be erected on the lots east of the public library, which was donated by the Stockton businessmen. The present site of the old courthouse was at one time conceded by all to be the logical place for the new high school.

Lightning was flickering in the west, and soon it was sprinkling on the almost fifty spectators bundled up and sitting on blankets or lawn chairs.
