Main Street Beautification Project discussed at City meeting

At the Stockton City Commission meeting, held on Tuesday, March 17th, Stockton Chamber Director Jayne Prockish met with the commissioners to present suggestions for the Main Street Beautification Project. A committee comprised of Jayne Prockish, Sally Lowry, Julie Kriley, Julie Hahn and Denae Odle has been working on plans for the three business blocks of Main Street. A grant will be applied for to help with the cost to install planters at various locations on the sidewalks now that the trees have been removed. The use of native grasses, shrubs and perennial flowers will be incorporated. The committee will visit with the business owners as they move forward with the plans. The commissioners noted that they will approve matching funds for the project as discussed.

Six Rooks County students win Hansen Scholarships

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation of Logan, Kansas has named 272 high school seniors from 59 Northwest Kansas schools as winners in its 45th annual scholarship competition. In addition, twenty scholarships have been awarded to Kansas Community or Technical College Transfer students who are planning to continue their education at a Kansas fouryear college or university. The list includes six from Rooks County.

PRIDE lining up PRIDE Day projects and Chamber finalizing events for the annual Peony Festival

The Stockton PRIDE organization met on Tuesday, March 10th in the Chamber Office during the noon hour. After President Amber Muir opened the meeting, and Chelsey Peterson read the February regular minutes for approval, the focus was on the Committee Reports.

We’ll Miss You!

MAGGIE ARNOLD’S final day at the Stockton Post Office was Friday, February 28th. Maggie, who lives near Alton, has worked for the postal service for seven years, and has been in Stockton for four of them. She accepted a position at Marty Wolters’ State Farm Insurance office in Osborne. Postal patrons will miss seeing her smiling face and kind heart.
