HARVEY COUNTY—A Kansas woman died from injuries in an accident that occurred just before noon on Friday, January 26th, in Newton. Wanda Hoyle, 69, of Newton, had a medical emergency, and her car crashed through the brick outside wall into the vision center area at Walmart at 1701 South Kansas Avenue, according to Newton Police.

HAYS—Hays Police were called to Sip N Spin in Hays early Sunday morning, January 21st, at 1:50 a.m. A Hays resident was hospitalized with a serious head injury after an altercation outside the facility.

WALLACE COUNTY—Wallace County Game Warden Mike Hopper thanked members of the public who stepped up and contacted Operation Game Thief last month, according to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Game Wardens. Officials investigated an alleged deer poaching in western Kansas and recovered evidence.According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, multiple charges are coming from the Wallace County Attorney’s Office.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—The Harlan Red-Tailed Hawk known as Harley Jr., used for educational programming that escaped his enclosure in early December, has been found but not captured yet. The Midwest Avian Foundation reported that they have eyes on Harley Jr.

LANE COUNTY—At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 30th, sheriff's deputies and Fire and EMS were dispatched to an aircraft emergency in the area of 96 Highway and Jagger Road west of Dighton, according to a social media report from the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

COWLEY COUNTY—On Saturday, December 23rd, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 17,000 Block of 121st Road for a vehicle in a field. When deputies contacted the registered owner, it was discovered the driver, 69-year-old Janet J.

THOMAS COUNTY—According to the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, December 14th, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded to a report of a semi full of cattle that overturned on Interstate 70 just east of the K184 Brewster exit. Community members volunteered to get the cattle safely off the trailer and rounded up, as some had escaped during the accident.

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Harlan Red-Tailed Hawk used for educational programming escaped his enclosure on Monday, December 11th, according to a social media report from the Midwest Avian Foundation. The hawk, known as Harley, is a non-released bird with limited ability to fly.

SALINA—Kansas Wesleyan has received a $700,000.00 gift from the estate of Gretchen Morgenstern, a former KWU Board of Trustees member, according to a media release from the school. The gift is believed to be one of the ten largest single gifts from an individual in school history.

LINN COUNTY—On Sunday evening, November 26th, Game Warden Falls responded to the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area to rescue a duck hunter who was suffering from hypothermia and going into shock, according to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. EMS transported the hunter to an area hospital for further treatment.
