She was born November 18, 1940, in Galatia, the daughter of Alfred and Clara Polzin Reif.

A longtime area resident, she was a funeral director and embalmer in various states.

Former Phillipsburg resident Sherlyn Kats passed away on March 13, 2024, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 81.

Survivors include his wife Irene of the home in Spring Hill; his son Tim of Bucyrus; his daughter, Candace Sage of Phillipsburg; sisters, Marianne Schlatter of Smith Center and Jean VanDeHoef of Michigan; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lorene Madeline (Stephen) Alexander, age 84, passed away on January 29, 2024, in Carmichael, Calif.,

She was born on April 16, 1939, to Lewis and Glennys (Reed) Stephen on the Stephen Family Farm northwest of Stockton, near Bow Creek. She battled leukemia for several years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, Lawrence, LeRoy, and Lewis Stephen.

Leonard Melton Stephen

Leonard Melton Stephen, of Atwood, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at HaysMed Center, at the age of 76 after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Stockton on August 26, 1947, to Lewis Harold and Glennys Faye (Reed) Stephen.  

Leonard lived on the Stephen farmstead along Bow Creek, eight miles north and two miles west of Stockton. He was the seventh sibling of eight born to this marriage.

James “Jim” Thomas Bridges, II, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 63.

He was born on January 25, 1961, to Gordon E. and Ruth Elaine (Gilbert) Bridges in Plainville, Kansas.

Jimmy Grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1979.

Survivors include brothers and spouses Gordon (Sherri) Bridges, Jay (Pam) Mongeau, Curt (Karla) Bieber; sister and spouse Lula (Dave) Geis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Darrell Dee Latham

Darrell Dee Latham, of Stockton, passed away on March 4, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, at the age of 86.

He was born on June 18, 1937, to Edward and Lorna (McCarty) Latham in Washington, Kansas. Dee married Sheila (Lynd) Latham in Smith Center on September 1, 1963. They were blessed with two sons: Lance and Heath.

He was born on June 5, 1944, to Marion and Elda (Elliott) Hamit in Hays. He graduated from Stockton Senior High School, then served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.
