Helen Marie Breckenridge, age 93, of Independence, Mo., peacefully left this earthly life on March 1, 2021, surrounded by family.

Helen was born October 21, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri to Vena and Lester Jones.

She and her husband, Donald, were wed on September 28, 1945. Together they had three daughters: Linda (Bob) Bates, Carol (Don) McLaughlin and Betty (Kevin) Maday.

Helen worked many places as a bookkeeper, retiring after 22 years as the general bookkeeper at Center Stake, a jurisdictional office of the Community of Christ Church in Independence. After retirement, Helen and Don created a business, Polar Breeze, traveling around the country to numerous fairs and festivals.

They enjoyed traveling with family. One of their favorite adventures was cruising. Helen and Don enjoyed a full life, including their active church membership at Cornerstone Community of Christ until Don’s passing in 2015.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years; a brother, Leo, and his wife Betty Jones; and step-father, Austin Atchison.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters and their spouses, grandchildren: Christine (Casper) Kaat, Cindy Bates, Jeremy Bates, Katy (Fiso) Toese, Jeff (Emily) McLaughlin, Zac (Katie) Harmon-McLaughlin, Alex Maday, Rachel (Manuel) Lopez and Jacob (Josh) Maday; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen had a full life and the pride she had in her family was immeasurable. She was deeply loved and brought love to her family and friends. Helen will always be in our hearts and memories and we will never forget the gift of the days we shared together.
