Dear Editor:

On Saturday, February 22, I was headed east, almost to Stockton when I noticed a red light on my instrument panel. My pickup was overheating. I coasted into the city park on the west edge of Stockton. I soon found out my serpentine belt was broken.

I walked to Carquest just south of the stoplight. Luckily, they were open. Partsman Chad got my belt for me. Having just come from a funeral, I wasn’t dressed for mechanic work and didn’t have any tools. I asked Chad if he knew anybody I could hire to install the belt. Another customer (Mr. Jones) asked if that was my white pickup at the park. It was. He said he would be going right by there and he would install my belt. Great! Then Mr. Jones found the idler pulley had a bearing out. While he went to get more tools, I called Chad. He said he would have the idler pulley ready for me while waiting. Mr. Krob stopped to see if I needed help, which was nice of him.

Mr. Jones drove me to Carquest and got my pulley. Minutes later he had my pickup fixed. Mr. Jones said he moved to Stockton three years ago from North Dakota. I’m sure glad he did!

Chad said he stays open until 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Sure glad he did.

I made it to Concordia to watch my grandson win first place in wrestling.

What looked like might be a disaster turned into good luck.

Many thanks to these three men for helping me. I really appreciate it.

I’ve always believed in karma. I just got rewarded for some of my good samaritan deeds.

Thanks again,

Richard Keiswetter
