Dear Rooks County residents:

This is such a surreal time. The COVID-19 virus response seems to change day by day. In order to stop the spread of the virus, the Appraiser’s office is looking at alternative methods to do day-to-day business.

• Hearings on value are still being held by phone and email. Please conduct a hearing if the value seems too high now, not when taxes are due, if possible. It is much easier to make reasonable changes now instead of after several taxing districts are expecting the funding in the budget.

• In order to still meet the deadlines, the office will be beginning data collection efforts starting as early as April 6th. The appraiser vehicle is identified on each side of the silver Dodge Ram crew cab. There will be a team of two that will view homes and structures from the vehicle unless there is a new structure, which will then be measured. A door hanger will be left on each door of homes that need to be reviewed this year. Please just fill them out and drop them in the mail. The office urges the public to continue with social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus and for the safety of our staff.

• Areas to be data collected: Twin Mound; W. & E. Paradise; N. & S. Plainville; Parts of the City of Plainville.

Every effort is being made to ensure the County is being evaluated and appraised accurately. Thank you for your patience during this time.
