THIS AND THAT

* Legendary singer/songwriter Mac Davis passed away on September 29th, and although I knew he wrote such great hits like “Baby, Don’t Get Hooked On Me,” “Don’t Cry Daddy,” and “Whoever Finds This, I Love You,” I did not know that he wrote the lyrics to my favorite Elvis song, “In The Ghetto.” If you want to listen to some great music, check him out. His music will live on!

* Yes, it is finally October! That means all the cobwebs and dust in my house are now Halloween decorations!

* People who were born in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s have lived in seven, six or five decades, two centuries, two millennia and had the best music, the coolest cars, drivein theaters, soda fountains and plenty of happy summer days. And, we aren’t even that old yet, we are just that cool!

* Still on my bucket list for this fall are jumping in a pile of leaves if I ever get around to raking them up, and drinking some hot cocoa with the little marshmallows in it as soon as it gets cold outside.

* Thank Heaven, I was sitting down when I heard the news about the passing of Eddie Van Halen. He was a truly gifted guitarist. Love Van Halen’s music with both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar as the lead singers. My favorite memory of listening to their music (yes, I have their albums) is back in the ‘80s when Jerry Haley would start out Saturday night at DJs by playing their music video “Jump!” “Rock stars come and go. Musicians make music until the day they drop.”—Eddie Van Halen

* You know some people are just born with Disney in their veins. And I am one of those who starts in Mexico while others start in Canada.

* Here are some Autumn self-care ideas: go to a farmer’s market, take a nature walk, curl up with a good book, and wear some fuzzy booties.

* Oscar-winning illustrator and animation filmmaker Gene Deitch, best known for directing the popular cartoon shows “Tom and Jerry” and “Popeye” for television, passed away.
