* And So They Say: Lester Eckart: “Coming home in that wind Sunday I had the pickup wide open but couldn’t get it past 35 miles per hour.” Don Peebles: “We dodged tornadoes all the way home from Kansas City on Sunday.” Stanley Krysl: “Now that income tax time is over, maybe I’ll have time to find out something.”

* Those who had driven out to the Webster Reservoir throughout the week had been observing some pelicans in action. At least one hundred of the big birds had stopped there for a rest and did a little fishing enroute to wherever they were going, providing a lot of entertainment for those who had been watching them.

* The gypsies were on the march enroute from wherever they came from to someplace in Utah, where their King lay dying, but they seemed to be in no great hurry to get there judging by their lengthy stops along the way. Twenty-seven trailer houses and pickups had arrived in Stockton early in the week and were scooted out of town in a hurry. They didn’t go too far since they took up residence at Webster Reservoir. The Webster Marina had closed during their stay and Wimp Hulse had removed all removable objects from the boats and rafts moored at the place.

* The local Rebekah Lodge had agreed to assume the responsibility of keeping the old McNulty Hotel replica open during the summer for the benefit of tourists and other interested visitors. They were looking for volunteers to help fill the work schedule. The hotel, which had been built to scale from the main portion of the old log hotel, was furnished as nearly as possible to resemble the period in which it had flourished. It had attracted many visitors during the summer months since it had been reconstructed.

* The Stockton FFA judging teams had done remarkably well with them placing first at the District Livestock Juding Contest in Rexford. They also placed second at the District Dairy Contest in Hays. David Knight and Robert Williams had tied for second place in the individual rankings at the Livestock Contest. Donald McLaughlin won first place in the Oral Reasons contest with Terry Odle placing second.

* Mr. and Mrs. Albert Muir, Jr. were the parents of a son, Albert Benjamin, born on April 11th.

* Piano students of Mrs. K. N. Pauley had presented a recital at the Christian Church, which had been well attended by parents and friends. Those taking part were Kenda and Kathy Hrabe, Kay Harding, Patty Atkisson, Bruce Wanamaker, George Fortin, Mike Saunders, Joelle McCall, Patsy Bartholomew, Lee Ann Harding, Jody Johnston, Ruth Ann Bartholomew, Nancy Carter and Nola Dunning.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: The average teenager’s idea of a well-balanced meal is a hamburger in one hand and a Coke in the other.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Rooks County had three serious automobile accidents during the week with Owen Hilgers and George Buchanen of Plainville, being killed. Survey work was continuing at the site of the Webster Dam and the Bureau of Reclamation announced that work would probably not be started before 1954.

* Showing at the Park Drive-In were the movies “The Last Sunset” starring Kirk Douglas and Rock Hudson, and “Wild and the Innocent” starring Audie Murphy and Joanne Dru.

* Debbie Niermeier was the guest of honor at a barbecue to celebrate her 13th birth anniversary. Guest were Linda and Kathy Poore, Pam Dean, Marva Desaire, Lanna Lawson, Jerilyn Buss and Linda and J. D. Niermeier.
