James William Simon, age 92, of Plainville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 19, 2020, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.

He was born in Colwich, Kansas on August 2, 1928, to the late Ben and Helen (Gagon) Simon. He had three siblings: Richard, Ed, and Mary Lou. James was united in marriage to Lola (Nickles) Simon on August 7, 1948. They were blessed with three children: Mike, Jolene, and Stanley.

James was an Oilfield Production Supervisor for Union Pacific. He started his career in Zurich where he raised his kids and worked for about 15 years before moving to Great Bend, where he worked for 10 more years before retiring. He then moved to Plainville after his retirement to spend the rest of his years around the people he loved. James enjoyed square dancing and hunting; and fishing at Webster Lake was his favorite spot to spend time with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 72 years, Lola Simon; children: Mike Simon of Plainville, Jolene (Rod) McElroy of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Stanley (Maria) Simon of Plainville; seven grandchildren: Chad (Aimee) Simon, Phil Simon, Mark (Christine) Simon, Andy Simon, Chris (Charlotte) McElroy, Casey (Amy) McElroy, and Karen McElroy; seven great-grandchildren: Sarina Allie, Gabby McElroy, Colt McElroy, Kansas McElroy, Sage Simon, Alexis Simon, and Carter Simon; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Helen Simon; siblings, Ed Simon, Richard Simon, and Mary Lou Haywood; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Simon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville.
