Ada Mae Bruna, of Plainville, passed away on April 14, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, at the age of 91.

She was born on April 17, 1932, in Phillips County, Kansas to Floyd Melborn and Ruth Norma (Rosenberg) Christoffersen.

She married Kenneth L. Bruna on August 17, 1951, and they had two sons, Mike and Pat.

Doris Marie Larsen, 83, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024, at Eldon Nursing and Rehab in Eldon, Missouri.

She was born April 20, 1940, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of the late Harry and Laura (Gager) Larsen.  

Doris enjoyed crafts, crocheting, quilting, gardening, fishing, being outdoors, and her cat, Frosty.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Joseph Buyak.

Christopher Keith Hrabe, 65, Salina, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at KU Medical Center.

He was born November 14, 1958, in Ellis County to Dorothy Ann (Thyfault) and Doyal Keith Hrabe.

He married Jeannie (Keiter) on November 26, 1983, in Hartington, Nebraska. Andrew Christopher joined the family on June 23, 1990.

Chris grew up in Stockton. He graduated in 1976 from Stockton High School. He got an associate degree at KTI (Kansas Technical Institute). He returned home to work at The Home Shop with Uncle Don and Aunt Janie.

Michael Allan Toelkes, 72, Olathe, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Hays, Kansas, on August 7, 1951, to Robert J. and Norah M. (Glass) Toelkes. He grew up in Plainville, Kansas, graduating from Plainville High School in 1969. Michael (Mike) lived in California, Washington State, and Guam, working as a real-life cowboy and bridge builder while raising a family with his wife, Barbara Toelkes. He settled in Olathe, Kansas, in 1983 and mainly worked in concrete/construction.

Timothy Scott Marcotte (Big Tim)

Timothy Scott Marcotte (Big Tim) of Palco passed away on March 24, 2024, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 67.

He was born on February 25, 1957, to Orren Henry and Marjorie (Purkey) Marcotte in WaKeeney. He married Brenda K. Robison on June 24, 1979, in Littleton, Colo. (one of the very few years harvest was later than usual).

Willard Dale Atwill

Willard Dale Atwill, Stockton, passed away on March 23, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton at the age of 91.

He was born on April 6, 1932, the youngest of eleven children to Arthur James and Nellie May (Carpenter) Atwill in Lebanon. He married Jean Silsby on July 30, 1951. They were blessed with eight children, two boys and six girls: Arthur, Susan, Jerry, Nancy, Tammy, Gail, Lori, and Richard. They enjoyed many wonderful years before Jean’s passing in 2000.

He was born on March 27, 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Elwin "Pete" Dwight and Bessie (Nowak) Lamb.

Jack Marston passed away on March 14, 2024, at the Homestead of Russell in Russell, Kansas, at the age of 94.

He was born on January 25, 1930, in Plainville, Kansas, the youngest of four children to Charles and Anna Marston. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1948 and married his high school sweetheart, Doris (Louise) Brotemarkle, not long afterward.

Lawrence D. Tholen

Lawrence D. Tholen, 94, “Grandpa” of Grinnell, died Monday, March 18, 2024.

He was born May 9, 1929, to Theodore and Margaret (Berens) Tholen. He married Agnes Schumacher on October 27, 1953. Lawrence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Grinnell, served as a medic in the Korean War, and was a member of the V.F. W. Post 2864, Grinnell. He was an avid supporter of local youth and coached baseball and softball for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Agnes, a son, Rick Tholen, six brothers, and seven sisters.

Edmo Jean “E.J.” Novotny, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home in Russell.

He was born on August 21, 1926, in Zurich, Kansas, the son of Rudolph Robert and Violet (Kaba) Novotny. He was their first-born child and was raised in Zurich around his loving grandparents.
