This And That

* I read an Instagram post asking about when you were growing up if you went to bowling alleys, skating rinks or drive-ins for fun. Yes! I did! In fact I can do one better than just saying I went to these three places for entertainment since my parents owned 183 Lanes in Stockton in the ‘60s, so I have wonderful childhood memories of that place. We still frequent it often when our family has something to celebrate like birthdays or get-togethers, or just because we are hungry. As for the skating rinks, who remembers skating on Saturdays at Stockton City Hall and participating in the Limbo contest? And let’s not forget Saturday nights at the Park Drive-In Theatre! Whether you watched the movie in a car or sat by the concession stand with your friends, it was a great night out! Or how about those $1.00 family nights on Wednesday evenings in the summer when the movies were the “oldies but goodies” like Ma and Pa Kettle? Sometimes Dad would back in the station wagon and open up the back door, so we could lie down and snuggle up with our pillows and blankets to watch the movie.

* And who does this because I do. I try and carry in all of my grocery sacks on one arm to save time by making one trip, and that’s when I find out my door keys are still in my pocket on that side!

* Read this, what do you think? “Does anyone else feel troubled by the fact that the name of this year is literally 2020 won?

* “Let’s declare Congress non-essential, demand they stay home, and slash their salaries. The country would be open in 15 minutes.” Actor Kevin Sorbo

* So now that Christmas and New Year’s is over, can we just skip straight to Spring?

* My grandkiddos got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas. I have watched them play the games on it and all I can say is I still don’t know how to even turn the darn thing on, let alone play a game!

* Can we impeach senators from other states? Asking for a friend.

* I have written in the 56 Years Ago column about Bob Gouldman’s annual birthday party at the Pla-Mor Café where he cooked up everything from beef to racoon and muskrat for everyone to enjoy. Sounds like they always had a fabulous time! Now I don’t know about all of the protein/meat products that he cooked up, but I for one really want our town to have some type of big potluck party once we can all gather safely in public again!
