THE HOT, DRY SUMMER we experienced this year thwarted the growth of many things…but not Sondra Folsom’s Elephant Ear plants. Folsom put the bulbs in the ground this spring, having no idea just how large they would grow. She attributes the weather and location to the size. “I think it makes a difference when they have some protection, and the fence they were near provided that,” she said. Folsom now knows the “happy place” of her plants, so we’ll see if they respond as well next year.
