New manhole cover placed Friday morning

J Corp and Hess Services, Inc., both of Hays, were in Stockton on Friday, June 5th installing the new manhole cover on Main (Highway 24) and Elm Street. The process took most of the morning hours with B&B Redimix pouring the concrete around the massive cover in the afternoon with the City of Stockton doing the finishing work to complete the monumental task. The area will still be closed to traffic for up to two weeks while the cement cures.

Stockton Fire Department called out on Friday, May 29th

The Stockton Fire Department was called out on Friday afternoon, May 29th at approximately 3:30 p.m. to 255 8 Road (Darrell G. Brobst) about a tractor that was on fire. The tractor, which was owned by John Ashmore of Phillips County, had caught fire due to an electrical short under the cab. By the time the fire crew arrived on the scene Darrell’s crew had put the fire out, so the volunteers just made sure everything was clear before heading back to Stockton. Fire chief Jon Voss stated that the damage to the tractor would probably make it a total loss.

PRIDE and Chamber to hold monthly meetings on Tues., June 9th

The Stockton PRIDE organization will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 9th at the Chamber Office during the noon hour. And the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly membership meeting that same day starting at 6:00 p.m. for a short social gathering before the meeting at 6:15 p.m. at Twig & Vine. See you there!

Rooks County releases two-phase plan for reopening

Last Wednesday, May 27th, Rooks County Commissioners John Ruder, Greg Balthazor and Corky Hagan held a conference call/meeting with Dr. Jen Brull, county health nurse Lori Eichman, emergency management director Butch Post, county attorney Danielle Muir, county clerk Ruthmary Muir and Rooks County Health Center CEO AJ Thomas to discuss the re-opening of Rooks County. Suggestions as to how the County should reopen were made by those present during the meeting, and then on Thursday morning, May 28th, the plan for Rooks County’s reopening was posted on the Rooks County Health Department’s Facebook page.
