“We Need a Little Christmas” was the holiday theme of the 2019 Christmas concert featuring Stockton’s sixth-through twelfth-grade bands and choirs held on Tuesday, December 17th at the high school gym.

The sixth-grade band started off the evening’s entertainment with their two selections, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The seventh- and eighth-grade band then performed the holiday favorites, “The First Noel” (small ensemble) and “Holly Jolly Christmas.” And to complete the instrumental portion of the concert, the high school band performed “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and a medley of “Christmas Classics.”

“Banbury Cross,” featuring the KMEA Honor Choir, was the first vocal performance of the evening, followed by the sixth-grade choir singing a lively rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock.” Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road” and Gene Autry and Oakley Haldeman’s “Here Comes Santa Claus” were the two songs the seventh- and eighth-grade choir sang. And the lovely “Carol of the Bells” was the choice of the sixth-through twelfth-grade girls ensemble. Isaac Reed was the accompanist for all three of the choirs.

Then the high school choir sang their three selections, “That’s Christmas to Me,” the lovely “Silent Night,” and “Gaudeamus Hodie!” which they had performed at the MCL vocal clinic.

And how fitting to end the evening with the combined sixth-through twelfth-grade bands and choirs performing the theme song of the night “We Need a Little Christmas” for the audience.

The Christmas performance was directed by vocal instructor Megan Riener and band director Kayla Hockett.
