The Stockton Sentinel finally has its 2024 New Year’s Baby!

Pretty miss Rebekah Kay made her entrance into the world on Tuesday, January 30th to happy parents Holly and Luke VanSkike, and proud big sisters Katie (7) and McKenzie (4). Rebekah was born at the Hays Medical Center. She weighed seven pounds, eight ounces, and was 19 inches long.

This announcement comes later than usual because of a little mix up about claiming the title due to the contest rules, with Holly and Luke thinking they weren’t eligible because they live and work at Lakeview Christian Camp. Luke is the building and grounds director at Lakeview Christian Camp, and the family oversees the property and the scheduling of the weekend rentals for family reunions, meetings, etc. as well as gets things ready for the camping season.

Rebekah was almost two weeks old, when the VanSkikes’ neighbor, Janie Lowry, reached out to the Stockton Sentinel to inform them about Rebekah, asking if the family was eligible. The VanSkikes were immediately contacted and informed that Lakeview has a Stockton address and that miss Rebekah could claim the prizes!

When the family came to the Sentinel to pick up the necessary papers to claim their prizes, Rebekah’s two big sisters couldn’t contain their excitement!

Katie said, “I am the big, big sister and I get to help with diaper changes and holding her!”

McKenzie stated, “I help with changing her diapers, too. And I had a party for my birthday on February 21st. I got a Skye stuffed puppy dog from Paw Patrol!”

For being the 2024 Sentinel New Year’s Baby, Rebekah and her family received wonderful prizes from the following merchants and business people: 183 Lanes, Diamond K Autowash, Diamond K Designs, Farm Bureau Financial Services (Don Moffet, Agent), Farmers National Bank, Farmers Union Coop, J-Mart, Kester Auto Parts LLC, Kiser Age Service LLC, LIB studio, Nova Theatre, RGN Co. Inc. Oil Field Services, Solutions North Bank, Stockton Dental Center, Stockton Housing Authority, Stockton Pharmacy, Stockton Recreation Commission and Fitness Center, Stockton Sentinel and The Daily Grind.

The 2023 New Year’s babies were Mayzi Kay and Walker Eugene Ghumm, parents of Taylor and David Ghumm of Stockton.

Congratulations to Rebekah and her family!
