Kansas game warden rescues hunter suffering from hypothermia

LINN COUNTY—On Sunday evening, November 26th, Game Warden Falls responded to the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area to rescue a duck hunter who was suffering from hypothermia and going into shock, according to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. EMS transported the hunter to an area hospital for further treatment. A friend of the hunter, responding to the social media report the game wardens reported, said the hunter is out of the hospital and recovering. “We cannot thank KDWP team enough for their help in not only saving my buddy, but recovering his boat out of the marsh as well and even helping us load it.” (Hays Post)

Kevin Costner stops by Kansas café after quail hunting

BUTLER COUNTY—Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Costner stopped for a bite to eat at the Prairie House in Leon when he was in Kansas hunting quail in eastern Kansas. After his meal, he posed for some pictures with Leon Mayor Kris Semisch and the employees of the café. (KAKE NEWS)

Ellis County firefighters fight grass fire

ELLIS COUNTY—At about 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, November 30th, the Ellis County Fire Department was paged to a grass fire in a ditch at Buckeye Road and Toulon Avenue. While en route, more calls were received at dispatch about multiple fires. Once fire crews arrived, fires were located at the dispatched address and another about 1.5 miles west of Buckeye Road. No obvious signs of an ignition source could be found. Eight firefighters responded and extinguished both fires. Residents in the area and the Ellis County Sheriff's Office helped the fire crews with water tanks and buckets. A total of about one acre burned. (Hays Post)

Woman hospitalized after crash on 183 Bypass

ELLIS COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30th, in Ellis County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2018 Ford Escape driven by Sheyla Andrienne Mallery, 18, Littleton, Colorado, was traveling on the U.S. 183 Bypass at 240 Avenue. The driver failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign. An eastbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Summer Beth Harris, 42, Hays, struck the Ford. EMS transported Mallery to the Hays Medical Center. Harris was not injured. According to the KHP, both drivers were properly restrained. (Hays Post)

Police seize 60,000 fentanyl pills, 59 pounds of meth

SEDWICK COUNTY—The Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Fentanyl Impact Team announced they made a major seizure of illegal drugs, according to a media release from the agency. On Wednesday, November 29th, Intelligence was developed related to the movement of illicit drugs into Kansas. On Thursday, November 30th, the KBI, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and Drug Enforcement Administration executed search warrants at two residences in south Wichita and one residence in northwest Wichita. As a result of the investigation around 60,000 fentanyl pills (weighing 13 pounds), 59 pounds of methamphetamine, and 4.2 pounds of fentanyl powder were seized. At this time, the suspects have been arrested. The cases will be presented to county and federal prosecutors to consider charges. (Great Bend Post)

Two Kansas teens hospitalized after SUV rolls

PHILLIPS COUNTY—Two people were injured in an accident just after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29th, in Phillips County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Brooklyn Jean Beckman, 17, Phillipsburg, was westbound on Kansas 9 a mile and one-half west of Kirwin. The passenger side tires of the SUV dropped off the pavement. The driver over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The SUV entered the north ditch and overturned. EMS transported Beckman and a passenger, Kyra Maureen Pirotte, 16, Phillipsburg, to the Phillips County Hospital. They were both wearing seat belts, according to the KHP. (Hays Post)
