Michael Allan Toelkes, 72, Olathe, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Hays, Kansas, on August 7, 1951, to Robert J. and Norah M. (Glass) Toelkes. He grew up in Plainville, Kansas, graduating from Plainville High School in 1969. Michael (Mike) lived in California, Washington State, and Guam, working as a real-life cowboy and bridge builder while raising a family with his wife, Barbara Toelkes. He settled in Olathe, Kansas, in 1983 and mainly worked in concrete/construction.

Mike enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He loved to watch Westerns and Nascar on TV. In more recent years, he’d become a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He spent time building and repairing little things, playing pitch, and caring for the feral porch cat. He was an excellent mechanic and made the best biscuits and gravy.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children Tahoma Toelkes, Whidbey Island, Washington, and Faith Toelkes, Lenexa; siblings: David Toelkes, Plainville, Anita Knapp, Norton, and Patrick Toelkes, Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren: Jayden and Dyllan; and nephew Solomon.
