Stanley Robert Roy, 76, WaKeeney, passed away May 11, 2023, at Trego Lemke Memorial Long Term Care, WaKeeney.

He was born February 19, 1947, in Damar, Kansas, the tenth child of Nathlie (Asselin) and Dona A. Roy.

Stanley spent his school years in Damar and graduated from high school in 1966. Before Stanley started technical college for mechanics and welding in Goodland, he met Diana Bassett. Stan and Diana married on August 12, 1967, in Damar. To this union, four children were born: Laura, Brad, Nicole and Mark.

After completing his training in Goodland, Stan moved his family to Tribune where he worked as a welder until he moved the family closer to home to help on the family farm. Stan and Diana raised their children on a farm near Damar. He worked many years for KDOT out of Hill City and later retired from Rooks County.

Stan was known by many as a gentle giant with a big smile who never knew a stranger. Stan and Diana loved spending their summers camping at Webster Lake visiting with friends and family.

Preceding Stan in death are his parents; an infant sister, and his sister Donna; brothers: Orville, Eugene, Albert, Clifford, and Lavern; and a son-in-law, Leonard Marcotte.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; sisters: Viola Ricks and Norma Griffin and husband Darrel all of Salina; children: Laura Marcotte and special friend, Cody Frye of Hill City, Brad Roy of Hill City, Nicole and husband Gary Kroeger of WaKeeney, and Mark Roy and wife Amber of Palmer, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy Avenue, Hill City, KS 67642.
