William F. “Bill” Wilson passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Red Bud Village in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 96.

He was born on March 23, 1926, in Salyards, Kansas, to Virgil and Ethel (Snyder) Wilson. Bill was united in marriage to Eleanora (Meredith) Wilson on March 18, 1949, in Plainville, at the United Methodist Church. To this union the couple was blessed with two children: Rick and Susan.

Bill grew up on the family farm in Gorham, Kansas. He was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps (that later became the US Air Force) as a senior in high school in 1944 and earned an Honorable Diploma. Bill was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946, and returned to the family farm in Gorham until he found work in the oil field. Eleanora Meredith danced into Bill’s life in 1949 at a local jig, and the couple was married that same year. In 1955 they moved to Plainville, where Bill worked for an auto supply company and farmed. He was a true outdoorsman; he lived to hunt, camp and absolutely loved fishing. Following Eleanora and his retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their RV, camping with friends, and having big cookouts. He was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years, the Plainville Fire Department, American Legion, and Eastern Star.

Bill was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated family man. He loved what he did and did what he loved. Although he will be greatly missed, his life, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Rick Wilson (Armaine De-Vela) of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Susan (David) Holt of Iron Station, N.C.; grandchildren, Briana (Adam) Johnson, Devin Holt, and Sean Holt; and two great-grandchildren, Ben and Sammy Johnson.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Virgil Wilson; mother and step-father, Ethel (RJ) Duren; and wife, Eleanora Wilson.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the Plainville Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project, Plainville Fire Department, or the United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St., Plainville, KS 67663.
