* You may or may not know this about me, but I love to collect pens. I guess I shouldn’t say I love to collect them; what I should say is that I always take a pen if someone is giving them away for free to advertise their business. I don’t think I have had to purchase a pen since I don’t know when, and you know I use them all the time to take notes at meetings, interviews, etc. for the paper. I have had some favorite pens where the ink just keeps flowing, and some pens that haven’t worked worth a darn, but the logos are pretty nifty. And though they haven’t worked in years, my favorite pen and pencil set is the gold one mom and dad had on the desk at Stockton Monuments when they owned the business years ago.
* Actor John Anniston passed away recently and was the main character on the TV daytime drama “Days Of Our Lives” for years. I was a little upset when I read of his passing because instead of writing something like, “Daytime drama legend John Aniston passes away,” the announcement read, “Jennifer Anniston’s dad, John Aniston, passes away.” Give the guy his due; if it wasn’t for him and his TV career, Jennifer wouldn’t even have a job in acting.
* If you feel guilty about your kids or grandkids watching too much TV, just mute it and put the subtitles on. And just like that, they are reading!
* Who remembers the Christmas variety specials with Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bob Hope or Bing Crosby?
* “Christmas must be coming,” Pooh said to Piglet. “I can already feel the merry.”
* Hey, if you are one of those people who are going to believe everything you read…start by reading the Bible.
* Yes, I was one of many who got more than a little teary-eyed with Marvel Studios introduction dedicated to the “Black Panther,” Chadwick Boseman. I followed his career starting when I saw him years ago on an ER episode. And did you see him in “42” or “Draft Day?”
* With the time change, it is officially, “Once I am in the house for the evening, I am not going back outside” season.
