The Rooks County Relay For Life’s theme was “Cruisin’ For A Cure.” The event was held at the Stockton Tiger Football Field and Stadium with thirteen teams walking throughout the night to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Over $18,000.00 was raised.

Thesecondphaseofrenovations for the Stockton school system was underway. The first phase was the acquisition and installation of new HVAC equipment and related improvements. The second phase was for the installation of new windows, doors and related energy conservation improvements.

A surprise birthday open house was held for Edna Stice, who was celebrating her 80th birthday. Her sister, Merna Poore, and nieces Kathy Dix, Connie Jenkins and Linda Look hosted the comeand- go event.

Obituaries were published for Gerri Miner (1917), Charles E. Harrison (1921), and Nancy Jean Thayer (1940).

Stockton Tiger athletes Maggie Spires and Cory Post medaled at the state track meet. Spires earned a third-place finish in the Long Jump, and Post ended up with a seventh- place medal in the 800 Meter Run.

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1911—George P. Taylor had traded his residence property and cement building on west Main Street to Mr. Shaffer of Minneapolis for the John Douglass farm in Iowa Township. Deputy Sheriff Shaw arrested J. H. Malone of Damar for carrying concealed weapons. He was brought to town, the complaint having been made in E.G. Spealman’s court. Malone was fined $5.00 and costs.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting The Year 1953—And So They Say: Edith Harris: “We’re going to vacation until our money runs out.”

Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1995)—At the invitation of Governor Bill Graves, Marissa Haines of Stockton was selected to attend the 12th Annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program in Topeka. Compared to the previous year’s 225 alumni and guests, the crowd of 175 who attended the 1995 Stockton High School Alumni Reunion seemed a little light. The oldest graduates present were Olive (Reed) Schafer and Julie (Kracht) Thompson, both of the Class of 1922.

Roy and Marilys (Rudman) Voss were celebrating 50 years of wedded bliss.

Brittney Hadden and Aaron Gallaway were married on March 14th at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

Birth Announcement— Dayton Michael Carpenter was born on May 5th at the Hays Medical Center to parents Jordan and Michael Carpenter of Stockton.

Kelli Weidenhaft had received her Nursing pin at the ceremonies held at Cloud County Community College.

Showing at the Nova Theatre was the movie “Night At the Museum— Battle of the Smithsonian.”
