* And So They Say: Ollie Ochampaugh: “I’ll be glad when the weeks get straightened out and Monday starts coming on Monday again.” Bob Osborn (to Timmy Miller): We’re sorry you have to go back to Vietnam, but we all feel a lot safer with you there.” Floyd Fix: “It was an hour and 40 minutes by air from Los Angeles to Denver and over 60 degrees difference in temperature.” Bobby Norton: “Stockton has the best street department in this part of the state. This is the only town I know of where they make much of an effort to clean the snow off the streets.” Chuck Hageman: “I was surprised to read in the Salina Journal that I was building Tudor Manor in Plainville. They should have told me before I started the work here.”

* The New Year’s Baby prizes offered by the Stockton business people and also awarded from Plainville went to Julie Ann Hanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hanson of Stockton. The little miss was born on January 2nd at 3:50 a.m., just missing out on being a real New Year’s Baby by just a few hours.

* Two vehicles had been badly damaged when they collided head on on the highway over Webster Dam. Snow had been blowing and prevented the drivers from seeing each other. The vehicles were the Coop pickup, driven by Michael Bane and a 1965 Ford driven by Virgil Olson. Jesse Hunt was riding with Bane. In spite of the serious damage to the vehicles, none of the occupants were injured.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: The government seems to be willing to do just about anything for the “good of the country” except do something about inflation.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The grand opening of the Lamoreaux Motor Company was scheduled for January 9th. The twin daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sutton shortly after midnight on New Year’s morning had received $500.00 in baby merchandise from the Toni Company and had been designated as the Toni Twins for 1953. Mrs. Edith Taylor and John Buttermore had been married on January 4th.

* The engagement of Miss Susan Eileen to Mr. Kent L. Goodwin of Hays had been announced. A late summer wedding was being planned.

* Mr. and Mrs. George Eades had announced the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Frances (Beth) to Francis LeRoy Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Brown of Osborn.

* Double ring marriage vows had been recited by Karen Sue Hobbs and James Burton Boyd on December 17th, 1966. Dr. Basil L. Johnson had officiated.

* Mrs. LaVern LaRue announced the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Thelma Jane, to Gary Eugene Shover of Larned. A February 14th wedding was planned.

* Mr. and Mrs. Leon McComb had entertained at a dinner to honor the eighth birth anniversary of their granddaughter, Melanie. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Gail McComb and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmitz, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Oliva, Mrs. Areta Miller, Miss Eloise Miller and Fred Meis.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies “The Alphabet Murders” and “What Did You Do In The War Daddy?”

* On sale at Slansky IGA were frying chickens for 29¢ a pound, twenty apples for $1.00, four cans of yellow cling peaches for $1.00, four Carol and Mary Baker Cookies for $1.00 and eight cans of First Pick Pork & Beans for $1.00.
