It may seem hard to believe, but the legislature is now fully ten weeks into its session and has just two weeks before “first adjournment.” We will adjourn briefly before returning to wrap up the regular part of the session with the veto session beginning April 26th and the target date ending April 28th.

We are less than a month before first adjournment and a short break before returning at the end of April. There are several other issues that need to be worked on before we get there.
Here are some of the highlights of things that have been happening on the House side of the Kansas legislature:

We have officially made it through turnaround. This past week was busy, but we were able to pass 69 bills, for a total of 96 bills since swearing-in. As of today, the Senate has passed 62 bills that will head to us for consideration.

Hello from Topeka. The end of the week is "turnaround," the first major legislative deadline of the session. It signifies the movement of bills from their originating chamber to the other side of the rotunda. The House is scheduled for three days this week, full of debate on the House floor. "Turnaround" is the term used in the Kansas legislature to describe when all bills must be out of their House of origin, so all House bills must pass the House and be on their way to the Senate and vice versa to be considered during the remainder of the session.

Senate Highlights – Weekly overview
This week was the last week of legislative activity before VETO session. Late Friday afternoon, the Senate gaveled out for adjournment and will reconvene on April 25th for VETO Session. The wrap-up period is expected to not last long, but work remains on a few topics.

We are in the final days moving towards first adjournment on April 1st. It has been a session filled with a whole lot of bills that did not go anywhere and since this is the end of the two year cycle, those bills will go away and could be re-introduced next session.
