The Rooks County Health Center celebrated the first anniversary of the new facility.

The David and Karen Reed family were named the 2009 Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year.

Linda and Larry Stamper, Donald Schneider, and Bernita and Mike Gawith (for Cleo Duffey) all accepted Century Farm Awards at the annual meeting of the Rooks County Farm Bureau.

Obituaries were published for Leah Ruth Trible (1923) and Janice M. Garvert (1940).

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1911—Two patrols of Boy Scouts have organized at Woodston with Chas. Stehley and Elton Murphy as leaders. A scandal is over the hill and out of sight before a compliment can reach the first corner. Please pass the chicken to Will Reed; he will pay well for it. He has built a considerable trade in selling reasonably and paying the highest prices for produce. Now is the time to bring in your chickens.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting The Year 1953—The Southwestern Bell Telephone Company purchased a building site in Stockton and was set to start on the erection of a new building. The front of the Peebles Rexall Drug Store was dressed up with the installation of a new large neon sign. SHS Homecoming Queen Carolyn Young and her attendants, Jeanie Brown and Bonnie Turnbull, were to ride in the parade. Improvement plans for Highway 183 south of the railroad track were set for an early 1954 project.

Looking Back Fourteen Years Ago (1995)—The Hobart Homemakers FCE organization celebrated its 60th anniversary with an open house at the American Legion Hall. Wanda and Tony Kreller returned home from a month’s camping trip. They spent time in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. The Stockton High School volleyball team had captured the 2A Sub-State Championship at Quinter.

Celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary were Al and Dorothy Plante.

Birth Announcements— Miss Emily Kay Widener was born on September 3rd to parents Joe and Toshia Widener of Gardner.

Jackson Ray Gasper announced the birth of his baby sister, Meredith Reese, born on October 1st, to parents Joseph and Megan Gasper.

Wilma Conger was celebrating her 95th birth anniversary with a card shower.

John Barnedt Jr. and Kalynn Ritter had announced their engagement and approaching marriage.

Jessica Williams and Steven Pinkerton were united in marriage on June 20th at Makena Cove in Maui, Hawaii.

Placing first overall as a team at the N.W. District Greenhand Conference were Piedad Ayala, Brandon Kollman, Taylor Russ, Orin Carlson, Audrey Green, Michah Baughman, Amy Keas, and Paige Kriley.

The movie showing at the Nova Theatre was “Couples Retreat.”
