Teen pronounced dead following ATV accident

MARION — A 16-year-old boy from Hillsboro was pronounced dead after an ATV accident near Marion. The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log indicates that around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, emergency crews were called to an area about two miles southeast of Marion, for a report of a crash. When officials arrived, they said they found Seth Mader, 16, of Hillsboro, had been driving a Yamaha ATV west on 170th St. when he failed to negotiate the curve of the road. KHP indicated that the ATV left the roadway and crashed into the ditch.According to officials, Mader was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Wrong-way driver on interstate dies in head-on collision

NEWTON — A man headed the wrong way on a Kansas interstate early Sunday morning was pronounced dead after a head-on collision. The Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log indicates that just before 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, emergency crews were called to the area of mile marker 29.3 on southbound I-135, about half a mile south of U.S. Highway 50, with reports of a crash. When officials arrived, they found Jeremy A. Sagerty, 45, of Wichita, had been headed north in a 2012 Nissan Altima, however, he had been driving in the southbound lanes of the interstate. KHP indicated that the error caused a head-on collision with a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van driven by Christian Walker, 50, of San Francisco, Calif., which had been headed south in the correct lanes. Sagerty was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Walker, who had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with suspected minor injuries. NW Kansas woman injured after car strikes post on I-70

TREGO COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday in Trego County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Buick LeSabre driven by Justin L. Johnson, 26, Collyer, was westbound on Interstate 70 near Ogallah in the driving lane. The car came up on a vehicle traveling at a much slower speed. The driver attempted to perform an avoidance maneuver. The Buick left the roadway to the right, entered the north ditch. The front passenger door of the Buick struck a delineator post.A passenger, Jessa D. Johnson, age 26, of Collyer, was transported via private vehicle to Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Justin Johnson was not injured, and both were properly restrained. (HaysPost.com)

3 dead, 2 hospitalized in Kansas crash

MARION COUNTY — Three people were killed in a T-bone crash in Marion County last Friday afternoon. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 1:30. Charlotte Cole, 53, of Moundridge, was driving a van north on Highway 256 with a passenger, 19-year-old Jessica Schmidt of Fruitland, Idaho, when troopers say she pulled out in front of a 2016 Ford Taurus heading west on Highway 56 and the vehicles crashed. Cole and Schmidt were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Taurus, 85-year-old Wanda Richmond of Marion, was also killed. Another passenger in the Taurus was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the Taurus sustained minor injuries. (SalinaPost.com)

Man dies after accident at custom cabinetry business

SALINA — A Salina man died as the result of a work accident at a cabinet shop south of Salina. Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, emergency personnel responded to Crestwood, Inc., 601. E. Water Well Road for the report of an accident, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan. Nathaniel T. R. Goben, 27, of Salina, was moving a load of lumber when it fell on him. EMS transported Goben to Salina Regional Health Center, where he later died. Goben had been employed by Crestwood for three years. Crestwood manufactures wood products including fine custom cabinetry for kitchens and bathrooms, according to the company website. (SalinaPost. com)
