FedEx truck stolen in Salina

SALINA — A Lincoln man was arrested last week after a FedEx truck he was driving in the Walmart parking lot was discovered to be stolen. Salina police said officers were sent to Walmart on a report of suspicious activity with a FedEx truck being driven in the parking lot by a white male wearing a leather jacket, hat and jeans, and not a FedEx uniform. One officer saw the truck in the northwest corner of the parking lot and a man matching the description of the reported driver pouring a liquid into the engine compartment that was running on the ground. Officers contacted FedEx and discovered the 2008 Utility Truck, valued at $22,000, had been taken from Randy’s Auto Repair in Salina. The man, Raymond Lawrence, 33, of Lincoln, was arrested for felony theft and driving with a suspended license. (Salina Journal)

Wine, other items taken from winery over the weekend

SALINA — A local winery is out more than $2,100 after a burglary over the weekend. Officers were sent to Smoky Hill Winery, 2771 Centennial Road, on Saturday for the report of a burglary sometime between 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4th and 5 p.m. Saturday, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. An employee entering the business on Saturday noticed a closet door open, one of the side rooms in disarray with items scattered on the floor, and the back door forced open. Items taken included an estimated 64 bottles of wine valued at between $16-$30 each, two security cameras, and a computer modem. Total loss was estimated at $1,650, with additional damage to the door. Officers were called back to the business on Sunday after it was discovered that a shed on the property also had been forced open and more items taken. FHSU singers to perform at Pearl Harbor ceremony next December

HAYS — Few events in history are as universally known and revered as the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and, next year, students from Fort Hays State University will help commemorate the 80th anniversary of the day that will live in infamy. The Fort Hays Singers, under the care of the director of choirs, Terry Crull, will perform during the events during their five-day trip beginning Dec. 4, 2021. While there they will perform with other musical groups from around the U.S., but the group will also carry the banner for the region as the only group asked to perform from Kansas. While some of the details remain to be worked out, the group is set to perform with a larger group during the commemoration concert scheduled for Dec. 7, 2021 at the U.S.S. Arizona memorial and will perform at other locations during the trip. During the visit, they also plan to present memorial items, such as a wreath or quilt, to honor the Kansans who served in the Armed Forces. Forty-four FHSU alumni live in Hawaii, and the alumni office is contacting them to make arrangements for possibly a meet-and-greet during the trip. (HaysPost.com)
