Joanna Marie Johnson, 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away March 14, 2020.

She was born to the late Edward Charles and Jessie Rae Hageman, June 1, 1926 in Stockton, Kansas.

Joanna graduated from Stockton High School in 1944 and attended Kansas State University. She was married to the late Ralph E. Johnson in 1971, and they lived together in Stockton until relocating to Lee’s Summit in 1996 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Joanna is survived by one sister: Ruby (Hageman) Mosher, of Plainville; her children; Bruce Stewart and Becky (Stewart) Derks of Lee’s Summit; and many nieces and nephews.

Her greatest joy came from her four grandchildren: Jaime (Stewart) Harwell of Wichita, Zachary Stewart, of Louisville, CO, Allison Derks of Belton, and Samuel Derks, of Lee’s Summit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Johnson and her son, Alan Stewart, both in 2009.

Joanna was a savvy businesswoman. She was the third generation owner of The Maris Store in downtown Stockton. She was known for “selling the shirt off her back” An accomplished seamstress, she could alter, design and create anything from a piece of fabric. Gardening was her passion and she surrounded herself with beautiful flowers—always enjoying the hard work it took to maintain their beauty. Her unconditional love and support of her children and grandchildren will be forever remembered.

Joanna was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lee’s Summit. She shared her talents of sewing and cooking for the benefit of others.

A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
