Every day is a celebration of something, isn’t it?

While every new day should be celebrated — if only for the sheer privilege of waking up to see it — there are some days that are even more special than you might know.

For example, I hope you all spent some time just this Tuesday, the 11th, cleaning off your desk, as it was “National Clean Off Your Desk Day!” I tossed a few loose paper clips in the container where they belong and placed a half-dozen ink pens in the cup where they should be when not in use. That was about the only effort I put in to cleaning off my desk.

And yesterday, January 12, I delivered some cookies to Kent and Pam down the street to show my appreciation to them for “National Pharmacist Day.” Friday, whether Charley enjoys it or not, I’m going to try to humanize her a bit for “National Dress up your Pet Day.” If it actually happens and she cooperates long enough for a picture, I’ll post it on Facebook. But I can already tell you, that ain’t happenin’!

My grocery list this week needs to include bagels and strawberry ice cream as Saturday, the 15th, is both “National Bagel Day” AND “National Strawberry Ice Cream Day.” And no, I don’t think they mean to top a bagel with strawberry ice cream, but it might turn out to be a good thing! Can’t knock it till I try it!

If all these “special” days have you scratching your head and rubbing your belly at the same time, you need to really enjoy Sunday, Jan. 16, as you celebrate “National Nothing Day.” I suppose since nearly every day of the year is a “something” day, and if you really get into that kind of thing, then Sunday’s Nothing Day might be a welcome thing!

I am also looking forward to next Wednesday: “National Popcorn Day.” But I’m truly baffled by Friday, the 21st, which is “National Squirrel Appreciation Day.” Hmmm… tell me why.

I know I am going to be in line for “National Pie Day” on Sunday, Jan. 23. Note to self: get ice cream!

I want you to know just how much I appreciate you, and how pretty you are in pink, and often I think about you and all you’ve accomplished in your life. Oh, don’t mind me… I’m just getting some lines worked up for “National Compliment Day” on Monday, Jan. 24.

And then keep on practicing those compliments until they sound completely believable because you’re going to need them on Wednesday, Jan. 26: “National Spouses Day.” And if you survive that day, you need to sit back and relish all the compliments from Monday, all the hugs and warm, fuzzy feelings from your spouse on Wednesday, and be ready to celebrate on Thursday with “National Chocolate Cake Day!” Don’t forget to take any leftover cake to work with you on Friday, the 28th for “National Fun at Work Day.”

We don’t dare pass up “Kansas Day” or “National Puzzle Day” on Saturday, the 29th. Sunday, the 30th will need some chicken salad to go along with “National Croissant Day!”

I’m sure glad I saved every bit of bubble wrap that came in all those Amazon boxes before Christmas, because the 31st of January is “National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.” And then, on the same day we have a unique challenge with “National Backward Day!” It’s a good thing I’ve got some time before the end of the month to think about how to celebrate Bubble Wrap and Backward Days both on the same day. Let me know what you come up with!
