Rylan Basart is continuing to excel in the athletic arena as a sophomore on the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Men’s Track and Field Team.

Last Saturday at the Central Nebraska Challenge, which was held at Kearney High School, Basart unleashed a toss of 64.86 meters (212’9”), breaking the school record in Javelin which had stood for 32 years. Ironically, the old record of 212’0” (64.62m) had been held by Basart’s uncle, Darren Grauerholz of Kensington. Grauerholz set the record at the 1992 NCAA National Championships in Texas.

Basart, who is also a specialist on the Loper football team, broke the record on his first attempt at Saturday’s meet, giving him a firstplace finish ahead of teammates Evan Prohaska (61.12m) and Wyatt Hammond (58.37m), who placed second and third, respectively.

Since breaking the record, Basart has been interviewed by the Kearney area radio, newspaper and television media outlets.

Rylan, a 2022 graduate of Stockton High School, is the son of Justin and Bobbi Basart of Stockton, and D’Ann and Rick Gardner of Mankato.
