Kriley Farms and Cletus Graf brought in the first loads of wheat to the Farmers Union Elevator in Stockton and the Woodston Coop, respectively. The test weights were averaging about 60 plus, with the moisture content dry.

A double tragedy connected with a house fire in Alton ended with the loss of one life, at the Shawn and Tammy Petterborg home, located four miles southwest of the town. One of the firefighters, 60-year-old Lyle Lewis, had reported the need to cool off after being on the scene for about an hour and after working two entries into the burning structure. EMS personnel treated him at the scene before being transported to Osborne County Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Lifesaving maneuvers had also been performed by EMS personnel during travel to the hospital.

What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1911—The low stage of the river has caused the destruction of vast numbers of fish. The campers at Camp Jackson on the riverbank hired boys to bury the fish that had died so that the odor would not be offensive. It will take a long time to get the river stocked again. C. A. Jepson was thrown violently from his motorcycle Thursday morning by the breaking of the fork of his machine. He struck his head and was considerably bruised about the face, but no bones were broken.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year 1953—Two local Boy Scouts, Terry Ostmeyer and Bill Fix, were chosen to represent Stockton at the third national Boy Scouts Jamboree in California in July. Leon McComb and Sons had the contract for a twoday rodeo at Hoisington in July. Stockton’s new Park Drive-In Theatre was closed for business due to a freakish wind that blew down one section of the three-section screen.

Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1995) The expenses for the Ordway murder trail were turned in to the Rooks County Commissioners. The cost of the trial to Rooks County totaled $36,486.00. The Stockton Police Department received a call from Prime Time Video that someone had put a firecracker in the video drop box by the front door. Damage was done to the carpet, which had a burn spot.

Birth Announcements— Max Raymond Hance was born on May 20th to parents Dustin and Renee Hance of Olathe.

A reception was held at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall honoring Mary Fix on her 90th birthday.

Celebrating their 60th class reunion at Cedar Links Golf and Country Club were Doyal Hrabe, Darlene (Buss) Farr, Darrel Sutton, Clara Mae (Wright) Riffel, Don Saum, Thelma (Shaw) Raines, and Merna (Tipton Poore). The night before the reunion Shirlee (Hazen) Muir, Class of 1953, had hosted a social hour for the class members at her home in memory of her late husband, Erle, a 1949 classmate.
