* According to a communication received by city manager C. N. Harper from Harlan H. Williams of Colby, Mr. Williams was asking for the use of the municipal airport for a commercial airline service to begin operations in February. The new line was to be called Kansas Airways, Inc. and would make a round-trip flight between Colby and Topeka twice each week day with stops at Clay Center and Stockton. The flights would start with a five-passenger, single engine Cessna, with a twin-engine service to start in April. The new service would carry both passengers and freight.

* The local Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office and the office of the Soil Conservation Service moved from the McMillen building in the four block of Main Street to a brand new building owned by Howard Webster and L. B. Waller, which had recently been completed by the Boethin Construction Company.

* As We Think It: If everyone really tries to make it so, this can be the best year Stockton ever had.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: During the last few days most of us have received so many bills, it would seem we are all billionaires.

* Six girls had enjoyed a supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Look and then formed a line party to the Nova. The affair celebrated the birth anniversaries of Kathleen Look and Sharon Sammons. Present for the fun were Linda Kern, Mary Ann Fix, Cheryl Pettijohn and Karol Baxter.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The marriage of Merna Tipton and Haroldean (Rip) Poore had taken place on December 28th. The Wanamaker Cleaners had moved into their new location in the east business block. The Harwood Nursing Home reported that 52 girls and 44 boys had been born during the year. Vehicle tag number 1 had gone to Harold Glodfelty.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies “Fancy Pants” starring Bob Hope, and “The Running Man” starring Laurence Harvey, Lee Remick and Alan Bates.

* On sale at Boyd & Conn Supermarket were twelve Sunkist oranges for 39¢, homemade pork sausage for 43¢ a pound, eight cans of corn for 98¢, and a dozen eggs for 26¢.

* Some of the prizes for the New Year’s Baby were $2.50 in cash from Bob’s Standard Station; $5.00 in cash from the Stockton National Bank, fifteen gallons of gasoline from Jim’s Vickers Service, a steak dinner for the parents from the Pla-Mor Pool Hall and Café, $5.00 in trade at Smith’s and a baby blanket from the Maris Store.
