Number of court cases filed increases for second straight year

For only the second time in recent years, the number of cases filed in Rooks County District Court in 2019 increased over the previous year. Last year there was an increase as well.

There were six categories that increased in number: civil cases filed increased 3 to 37; the number of marriage license applications was up 4 to 26; domestic cases were up 6 to 66; limited civil cases increased 29 to 283; personal property tax cases were up 47 to 301; and traffic case filings increased a whopping 309 to 559.

Dropping in number were the following: probate cases were down 20 to 43; state tax liens were down 17 to 61; juvenile in need of care cases were down 17 to 5; criminal cases were down 8 to 99; small claims cases were down 4 to 11; adoption cases were down 3 to 1; juvenile offender cases dropped 2 to 0; and statutory liens were down 1 to
