Grinnin Gulch is a fictional western town in the early 1900s, named after affluent rancher Jess Grinnin. The small town is populated by the usual “unusual” characters you would expect to see at a Bull City Opry Co. performance. Jess Grinnin’s daughter, Justa Grinnin, and drifters Chester Drors and Gopher Urgun are but a small sampling of the characters you will get to know in this original comedy written by Jo Peterson. You will meet people helping people, people irritating people, and people taking advantage of people, but primarily you will meet characters who will make you smile, snicker, laugh, and guffaw.

The cast is made up of 15 fun-loving local people. Several members have been in the group for 29 years, some for 3-4 years, and we welcome two new members to the cast this year. The cast and crew are all volunteers whose goal is to bring fun and laughter to the evening show at the Alton Jubilee.

The Bull City Opry Co. was organized 29 years ago, but due to COVID, they had to take a hiatus in 2020, making this year their 28th performance. Held the last Saturday of August each year, the Alton Jubilee starts at 10:00 a.m. with a parade, followed by fun, games, activities, music, food, and fellowship all day. The Bull City Opry Co. performs at 7:30 p.m. at the tennis courts, followed by the RFD#3 street dance at 9:00 p.m.

A generous grant from the Sarver/McFadden Charitable Trust was received by the Bull City Opry Co. this year, allowing the construction and background crew to purchase much-needed materials to make the background safer and more weather resistant.

The cast and crew were joined by members of Nation Builders of Alton and the Osborne FFA to help set up the background. Thanks go to all who lend a hand to make this event happen each year.

The Bull City Opry Co. has cooked up a heap of laughs in Grinnin Gulch, so bring your family and friends for a comedy performance under the stars in the park in Alton, Kansas, at 7:30 p.m. on August 26, 2023. The shenanigans are appropriate for all ages, and there is no charge.

Bring your lawn chairs, sit back, and enjoy the show.
