LEAVENWORTH COUNTY The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Lansing Police Department are conducting a death investigation after human remains were found near a creek in Lansing.

Just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, subjects were walking along a creek bed in the 900 block of N. Main St. in Lansing when they found skeletal remains. They called 911, and officers from the Lansing Police Department responded to the area.

The Lansing Police Department requested KBI assistance at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded.

At this time, the identity of the deceased person has not been confirmed. Positive identification may take longer than typical cases due to the condition of the remains. An autopsy has been scheduled.
