Our dear mother, Bonnie Vogel, sadly passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the age of 92.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community.

Bonnie was born on July 18, 1931, in Agra, Kansas, to Curtis and Mabel (Munyon) Smith. Bonnie graduated from Agra High School. Bonnie married Arnold Vogel in Stuttgart, Kansas on February 26, 1950. To this union, seven children were born. Arnold and Bonnie lived and raised their children on the Vogel Family Farm. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Arnold’s passing on June 3, 2006.

As her children got older, Mom decided she wanted a career. She attended Colby Community College and graduated as an LPN at the top of her class. She was a nurse at the Phillips County Hospital, Medical Clinic, and Retirement Center. Mom had a passion for caring for others. Mom’s patients loved her and especially loved hearing stories about her children. She left a lasting impression on all the patients she cared for during her time as a nurse. Bonnie worked for many years before retiring at the age of 78.

Not only did she work as a nurse, but she was a homemaker to her husband and seven children. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and gardener. She loved her flowers as well as her books, as she was an avid reader. Bonnie also had a deep love for all the pets she cared for throughout her life. Bonnie loved all of her children and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended as many of her family’s events as possible.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Vogel, parents Curtis and Mabel Smith, daughter Julie Elliot, brother Ross Smith, great-grandsons Trenton Horn and Bennett Wolf, and son-in-law Dennis Jordan.

Survivors include her children Iris Stone of Phillipsburg, Janice Jordan of Holdrege, Neb., Vance Vogel of Phillipsburg, Kirk Vogel and wife Donna of Phillipsburg, Vicki Green and husband Alan of Stockton, Kansas, and Lorna Green of Phillipsburg, grandchildren Melanie Ehresman and husband Scott of Holdrege, Neb., Allison Melton and husband Travis of Omaha, Neb., Christy Whitehair and husband Tony, Mike and Cindy Bechtel of Edmond, Okla., Kristin Wolf and husband Brad of Phillipsburg, Kendra Conrad of Phillipsburg, Kaylee Brown of Logan, Kaitlyn Vogel of Hebron, Neb., McKenzie Trembley of Bogue, Madison Horn and husband Ethen of Stockton, Nicole Martin and husband Stephen of Stockton, Jeremy Green and wife Aftan of Stockton, Kolton Vogel and wife Chelsea of Indianola, Neb., as well as 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
