Curtis Dean Deutscher, age 69, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at his home in Ellis, Kansas.

He was born March 16, 1954, in Hays, the son of Carl H. and Amy E. (Moore) Deutscher.

Curtis attended school in Ellis, graduating in 1973. While in high school, he worked one summer for his brother, Gary, at his Texaco station. Following graduation, he worked in construction.

Curtis worked at Travenol for 15 years and for Walmart. He retired August 31, 2022, working 30 years for EnerSys.

Curtis loved fishing, singing Elvis’s songs, and his dog, Rascal. He was an avid reader and enjoyed putting puzzles together. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Carl, on Nov. 5, 1984; his mother, Amy, on December 18, 1985; and brother-in-law, George E. Stewart, on December 12, 1986.

Surviving are his brother Gary E. Deutscher and wife Rosetta of Hays; his sister Joyce Ann Stewart of Hays; nephews Keith Deutscher, Tennessee, Bruce Deutscher and wife Gina, Stockton, and Brad Stewart and wife Tammy, Hays; niece Amy Phelps and husband Codie of Bentonville, Arkansas; great-nephews and nieces Zachary Deutscher, Denver, Colo., Kyle (Brandi) Deutscher, Bristol, Ind., Cody (Ashley) Deutscher, Norton, and their children Simon, Collins and Alan, Casey (Kennedy) Deutscher, Garden City, and their children Avery and Nash Jesse Stewart and son River, Hays, Taylor (Jonata) Roacho and daughter, Luna, Wamego, and Emeree, Ellasyn and Everly Phelps of Bentonville, Arkansas.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Inurnment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis, KS.

A visitation will be held Thursday, 1:30 p.m., until service time at the funeral home.
