David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer, age 97, of McCook, Neb., passed away on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook, Neb. 

He was born on the Bobinmyer Ranch (Homesteaded 1886) South of Culbertson on Oct. 16, 1925, to John E. and Anna B. (Drain) Bobinmyer.  He was the third child of six children. He attended country school through the 7th grade. He attended 8th grade through high school at Herndon, graduating in 1943. In high school, he went out for football and boxed at the McCook Elks Boxing Club and won the 118 lb. class to go on to the Golden Gloves in Omaha in 1942. He continued to box in the Navy.

Bob was drafted into the Navy on January 6, 1945. He was assigned to the LST 596 Asian/Pacific as a motor Machinist 3rd Class. He was discharged in July of 1946.

Bob returned to the family farm in 1946. He married Vera Victoria Case on August 10, 1947, at her parents' home in rural Culbertson. Three children were born to this union: James Edward “Jim,” David Robert J., and Vicki Ann. They made their home on the Bobinmyer Ranch until 1971, moving into McCook. 

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially woodworking and gardening. He made an array of different things, and he liked working in his trees and garden. Bob and Vera enjoyed going to dances, watching their grandchildren, and attending their many activities. 

Bob had been a member of: the election board, school board District 18, original member of the Culbertson Rural Fire Department, UCC Church in Herdon, McCook COOP Equity board, Lifetime member of the VFW, Elks for 50 years, and Eagles for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, of 73 years, and sons, Jim and Dave; his parents, John and Anna; brothers, June and Doug; and sisters, Doris Wacker and Norma Strunk.

He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Berkley, and husband, James of Stockton; daughter-in-law Hazel Bobinmyer; grandchildren, Jonathan Berkley and wife, Nikki of Stockton, Brian Berkley and wife Quincy, of Stockton, and Renee Berkley Earl and husband Capt. Levi USMC Yuma, Ariz., Jaime Hornecker and husband Heath of Casper, Wyo., Tyler Bobinmyer and wife Jenna of Culbertson, Neb., and Cody Bobinmyer and Haley of Gordan, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Henry, Charlotte, Ned, and Margaret Berkley all of Stockton, Alexander Berkley, Stockton, Nadine, Maxine and Porter Earl of Yuma, Ariz., Nolan, Emmy, Carson and Jansen Hornecker, Casper, Wyo., Preston and Parker Bobinmyer, Culbertson, Neb., and Haizley Bobinmyer, Gordan, Neb.; and sister Betty Rouselle of McCook, Neb.

A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Burial with military honors was held in Culbertson Cemetery, Culbertson, Neb.
