Henry E. Schindler, age 76, passed away July 10, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend, Kan.

He was born April 16, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, to Ray and Vera (Arrington) Schindler.

Henry grew up on the family farm in Greenfield Township in Rooks County, Kan., where he learned the value of hard work.

He attended the Elm Creek Country School and Stockton High School.

Henry married Bernadine Schultz; to this union were two sons, Don and Rick. They later divorced. 

Henry was a welder for GBI and a heavy equipment operator for George Baize. After retirement, he worked for The Center for Counseling and Consultation in Great Bend in maintenance for six years. Henry was a member of the Kansas Cosmetology Association and a barber for many years.

Henry enjoyed gardening, lawn work, growing flowers, fruit trees, fishing, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Henry was very talented in fixing about anything. 

Survivors include his son Don (Lisa) Schindler of Newton; three grandsons, Gage and Gavin Reich of Oceanside, Calif., and Carson Schindler of Newton; four brothers, Kermit of Stockton, Marvin of Goddard, Louis of Hill City, and Kenneth of Topeka; two sisters, Zoe Hrabe and Marilyn (Dwight) Miller of Stockton; and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Vera Schindler; his son, Rick Schindler, on June 21, 2008; his significant other of 43 years, Judy Schindler; three brothers, Richard, Charles, and Abe; two sisters, Rita Hrabe and Avis Look; three brothers-in-law, Gene Hrabe, Normand Hrabe, and Lester Look; and four sisters-in-law, Julie, Sandy, Shirley, and Barbara. 

A private family graveside is planned at the Stockton Cemetery.
