Janet Sue Dombroski, of Plainville, passed away on July 3, 2023, at Rooks County Health Center, in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 83.

She was born on April 3, 1940, to Henry Charles and Lois Rowena (Doty) Cooley in Ottawa, Kansas. She married Robert Charles Dombroski on December 20, 1958, in Plainville. He passed away on May 31, 2012.

Janet moved to Oklahoma at age three and then to Rooks County at age six. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1958. She and Robert lived in Anchorage, Alaska while Robert was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. She was a cook for the Plainville school district for 15 years and then a paraprofessional for a few years working with special-needs children. She also worked at a local drive-in theatre and the Moore Indoor Theatre for 20 years and was a telephone operator for a year while working the night shift. She also earned her associate degree from Colby Community College while taking night courses later in life.

Janet was a girl scout leader for many years and enjoyed scout camping. She also enjoyed music, playing the piano, sewing, word puzzles, drawing (she had an artistic flare), traveling all over the country, garage sales and Thursday night shopping in Hays was a must.

She is survived by her children, Darlene (Steve) Norall of Southlake, Texas, Bob (Connie) Dombroski of Hill City, Kansas, and Dianne (David) VanPatten of Christiana, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Karen Sanderson; brother-in-law Bill Sanderson; and son Rick Dombroski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 6, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the church.
