Roy Ballard passed away on July 6, 2023, at his home in Alton, at the age of 70.

He was born on May 31, 1953, to William George and Marjorie (Boland) Ballard in Osborne.

Roy grew up in Alton and graduated from Osborne High School in 1971. He moved to Beloit and ran Ballard’s Sporting Goods until he closed it and moved to Wichita for three years. He moved back to Alton and started B & C Construction with his brother-in-law, and they helped people with their houses for 28 years. He then opened Bull City Gun Shop in 2000 and retired in 2011 but remained active with the business until it closed in 2023.

Roy’s life was hunting, fishing, trapping, and driving country roads. Known as the “king of telling stories,” he didn’t know a stranger and loved to tell his hunting stories. Roy was incredibly giving, would give the shirt off his back, and always took care of people. He loved his dogs and his family.

He is survived by his significant other, Linda Iman of Alton; children, Brett (Susan) Ballard of Newton, Monica (Jason) Hoy of Hutchinson, Brian (Nicole) Ballard of Goddard, and Brice (Kari) Ballard of Alton; brother, William (Beverly) Ballard, Jr. of Alton; sisters, Lillian (Patrick) Conway of Alton and Sandra (Mark) Byarlay of Burlington, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sons, Bruce and Bradley Ballard.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at the Alton United Methodist Church in Alton. Burial will follow in Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8  p.m. at the funeral home in Stockton.

Memorials are suggested to NCK Outdoor Youth Fair–Osborne, or Nation Builders– Alton, and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.
