There’s so much to be thankful for

Several seeks ago I shared with a Bible study group that lately, I’ve been feeling so much anxiety, with gut-wrenching worry as I watch the evening world news. I really didn’t WANT to watch the constant bad-news stories, but at the same time, I also couldn’t NOT watch. I think some would call it an addiction, but I don’t categorize it like that. My friends that evening at Bible study all knew exactly the feeling I was having, and most of them said they just don’t watch the world news anymore. But I want to know what’s going on in the world, at home and abroad. However, since that conversation, I have tried to watch less news and instead, fill that time with something else—walking the dog, for example. I’m also trying to read some kind of “uplifting” news daily to fill my head and heart with happier thoughts.

I have much more than I deserve. I don’t hear gun blasts or bombs detonating throughout the day. I have plenty to eat; fresh, clean water to drink and bathe in; plenty of clothes to wear whatever the season; and a warm (or cool) home to enjoy. I am thankful for every single day, and I am consciously looking for the good in each day and in each person I see.

On this Thanksgiving Day, I am sharing the words of Josh Groban’s song, “There’s So Much to Be Thankful For,” to lift your heart and mine. Happy Thanksgiving!

Somedays we forget to look around us Somedays we can’t see the joy that surrounds us, So caught up inside ourselves. We take when we should give.

So for tonight we pray for what we know can be. And on this day we hope for what we still can’t see. It’s up to us to be the change!

And even though we all can still do more, There’s so much to be thankful for.

Look beyond ourselves, there’s so much sorrow; It’s way too late to say I’ll cry tomorrow.

Each of us must find our truth; it’s so long overdue.

So for tonight we pray for what we know can be. And on this day we hope for what we still can’t see. It’s up to us to be the change!

And even though we all can still do more, There’s so much to be thankful for.

Even with our differences, there is a place we’re all connected; Each of us can find each other’s light. So for tonight we pray for what we know can be. And on this day we hope for what we still can’t see. It’s up to us to be the change!

And even though this world needs so much more, There’s so much to be thankful for.
