We all know the month of March is most often associated with St. Patrick’s Day. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland who devoted himself tirelessly to prayer, fasting, and walking the faith with the Irish people. St. Patrick’s Day, which falls on March 17th, is a religious feast day that began in the 17th century, it has evolved into a variety of festivals across the world, celebrating the Irish culture with parades, special food, and drink (especially beer), music, dancing and a whole lot of GREEN!

However, what people might not know is that throughout the rest of the Catholic world, the month of March is also associated with St. Joseph, the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster Father of Jesus Christ. St. Joseph’s Feast Day is observed on March 19th, two days after St. Patrick’s Day.

Since we all know how most of us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I thought you might like to know how to celebrate St. Joseph’s Feast Day. It’s pretty simple since it is traditional to serve Italian dishes, so get out that special pasta dish and serve it with fried olives and fig cookies.

Other March Religious Feast Days The Feast of St. Katharine Drexel, the patron saint of philanthropy and racial justice, is observed on March 3rd. She was an American heiress, philanthropist, religious sister, and educator and the second American-born saint to be canonized by the Catholic Church.

Saints Perpetua and Felicity (March 7th), martyrs canonized by Pope Paul V and the patron saints of widows, and St. Frances of Rome (March 9th), patron saint of automobile drivers, are also celebrated during March.
