Soup’s on! The Stockton VFW Post 8873 (314 Main Street) is hosting its Second Annual Soup Contest this Saturday, February 3rd. If you have a favorite soup and want to win the grand prize and bragging rights, enter this contest on Saturday between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (The first ten entrants to check in will receive a door prize. Entries will be on a “first come, first serve” basis. No late entries will be accepted.)

The contestants should make/bring at least five quarts, with the soup to be “pre-made” using your favorite and potentially “award-winning” recipe. The contestant/team will be issued a contestant number to display for the judges.

Once entered, the contestants are responsible for maintaining their entries at a proper temperature. Soups shall be liquid-based (i.e., soup, stew, chowder, bisque, etc.), and the dishes are not required to include meat. Judging will occur between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. by the public for a $10.00 admission fee for judging and a meal. Contestants are also allowed to vote with a payment of the $10.00 meal fee. Excess soup will be offered to the public once judging is completed.

An open meal will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the awards announced starting at approximately 7:45 p.m. The VFW will provide saltine crackers, drinks, bowls, spoons, and cheese. Also, there will be cinnamon rolls while they last. The contestants will then clean up after the event.

Make plans to enjoy this “Souper Bowl” event!
