What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago in 1911—A peculiar and painful accident happened to Georgia East, the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John East. The little girl and her sister were riding on the back of a two-row lister her brother was driving. As she rode along, the braid of her hair caught in the lister chain, and before the lister could be stopped, the little girl had been literally scalped. The hair with the skin was torn off, making a wound fully four inches in diameter. Forty stitches were necessary to replace the scalp. The new post office promises to be very nice. It looks short and thin and occupies the best business corner in town, where one would expect a more imposing structure. Several have already christened it the Flatiron.

56 Years Ago, Spotlighting the year (1953)— Dr. and Mrs. Drummond were applying white paint with yellow trim on the new dentist’s office building. Mrs. Margie LeSage announced the purchase of the beauty shop on Walnut Street from the former Maxine Thompson.

Looking Back 14 Years Ago (1995)—Clyde Denton, a Stockton piano tuner and musician, had turned his 3,000th piano at the home of Pat and Linda Waddell. The public was invited to the retirement open house for Joyce Richardson, who had been the USD 271 school board clerk for 30 years. Andy Pfannenstiel represented Stockton at the 22nd annual Kansas East-West Shrine All-Star Football Game.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Morrissey celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Stockton American Legion Hall.
