What Stocktonites Were Doing 98 Years Ago, Spotlighting the Year... 1907 — The case of John Paxton of Woodston, charged with failure to provide for family composed of a wife and four small children, came up in probate court. The family members were all present and presented an appearance that did not indicate that their care had been the best. There were no witnesses summoned and only the testimony of the husband and wife and probation officer was taken. At the conclusion, the judge let the father and mother retain possession of the children for another month, and during that time will investigate the treatment accorded to them, and if it is not satisfactory, the children will be taken and placed where they can be properly cared for.
